US GUIDED CVC INSERTION COURSE
🏥 Course Overview
This intensive, hands-on workshop is designed to equip healthcare professionals with the essential knowledge and procedural skills required for the safe preparation and insertion of Central Venous Catheters (CVCs). Delivered by experienced NHS clinicians, the course integrates focused theoretical teaching with ultrasound-guided practical sessions using high-fidelity manikins and vascular access simulators.
The course follows high standards for vascular access training and emphasises sterile technique, ultrasound guidance, and patient safety.
🎯 Learning Objectives
- Understand the indications, contraindications, and device selection for CVC insertion.
- Review anatomy and site selection for internal jugular, subclavian, and femoral access.
- Apply infection control principles to prevent catheter-related bloodstream infections.
- Recognise and manage insertion-related complications such as arterial puncture, pneumothorax, and line malposition.
- Perform ultrasound-guided CVC insertion using the Seldinger technique under supervision.
- Understand post-insertion care, line maintenance, and documentation requirements.
📘 Course Format
- Welcome and course introduction
- Focused theoretical presentations on core principles
- Live demonstration of ultrasound-guided technique
- Supervised hands-on practice on manikins and vascular simulators
- Structured feedback and skill refinement
Note: During the hands-on practice, only Internal Jugular (IJV) and Subclavian approaches will be performed on manikins. Femoral vein access will be discussed in detail during the theoretical component.
