Core Emergency Ultrasound Course (Level 1)
The Core Emergency Ultrasound Course is a practical, hands-on training programme designed to introduce healthcare professionals to the essential principles of Point-of-Care Ultrasound (PoCUS) used in emergency and critical care settings.
Point-of-Care Ultrasound has become an essential diagnostic tool for clinicians working in emergency medicine, acute medicine, intensive care, and pre-hospital environments. This course focuses on the most clinically relevant ultrasound applications used in frontline patient care.
Delivered by experienced NHS clinicians with expertise in emergency ultrasound, the course combines focused lectures with extensive hands-on scanning practice to help participants develop confidence in image acquisition and interpretation.

Learning Modules
- Fundamentals of Ultrasound – ultrasound physics, probe selection, image optimisation and artefacts
- FAST / eFAST Examination – detection of free fluid, pneumothorax and pleural effusion in trauma patients
- Cardiac Ultrasound – basic echocardiographic views, pericardial effusion recognition and PEA assessment
- Lung Ultrasound – identification of pneumothorax, lung consolidation and interpretation of B-lines
- Ultrasound-Guided Vascular Access – ultrasound-guided peripheral IV insertion and principles of central line placement
