MRCEM Course UK: Primary, SBA and OSCE

The Membership of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (MRCEM) is the exam route into UK emergency medicine. It has three parts, taken in order: MRCEM Primary, MRCEM SBA and the MRCEM OSCE. This page sets out how each part works and which Kung Medics course or question bank fits each stage.

Frequently asked questions

What are the three parts of MRCEM?

MRCEM has three exams, taken in order: MRCEM Primary, MRCEM SBA and the MRCEM OSCE. You must complete all three within 7 years of passing MRCEM Primary. Check the current rules on the RCEM website.

Is MRCEM Intermediate the same as MRCEM SBA?

Yes. RCEM now calls the second exam the MRCEM SBA. Older guidance calls it the MRCEM Intermediate SBA.

Do I need IELTS for the MRCEM OSCE?

RCEM's regulations expect IELTS level 7 or the OET equivalent before you sit the MRCEM OSCE. Confirm the current requirement on the RCEM website.

How many attempts do I get at each MRCEM exam?

RCEM allows 6 attempts at each MRCEM exam, and may grant one further attempt case by case.

How long can I use a Kung Medics question bank?

MRCEM Primary Pro and MRCEM SBA Pro have plans from 1 to 6 months. MRCEM OSCE Pro has 1, 3 and 6 month plans. Access starts when you subscribe.

Can I take the MRCEM OSCE course online?

Yes. The 5-day MRCEM OSCE course runs live online or on campus in Manchester. You choose when you book.
